Software Installation Instruction Page for Windows 3.1
This page contains a description of the software package and
the step-by-step instructions for installing
the software. You should print this page in order to use it as
a reference when installing your software.
Software Description
- A Setup wizard that walks you through the installation process
- Internet Explorer, Version 3.0, a web browser that enables
you to view HTML documents on the World Wide Web
- Security software that enables you to make transactions over
the internet
- A mail client that lets you send and receive electronic mail
- A news client so you can read and post to newsgroups
- A TCP/IP stack to access the internet
- A dialer which will dial into Au Fait Communications.
- A wizard that helps you detect and configure your modem.
System Requirements
These are the minimum requirements necessary to run this software.
- 386 processor
- Microsoft Windows 3.1
- 4 MB of memory
- VGA monitor
- Mouse
- Modem with a speed of at least 9600 or higher.
Installation Instructions
- Download the software onto your computer.
- Create a temporary directory on your computer.
- Download the appropriate file(s). The floppy version requires 3 floppy disks. The first disk
needs to be unzipped.
- Read and print the following procedure.
- Call us at (301) 665-1178 or fill out the online signup
form to setup your account.
- Install the software.
- Find the file you had downloaded. (iew31.exe)
- Double click on it.
- Read the License Agreement and accept it. (This is a fully
licensed version of Internet Explorer. It is not shareware or
crippleware. It does not cost you anything.)
- When prompted, enter the name and organization, i.e. your
name & home (or leave blank).
- Follow all the default settings. It is best to install it
on the C: drive; but, you may change the drive if you must.
- After the software installs, you will be asked if you want
to restart the computer. Let the computer reboot.
- After the computer restarts, click on the GET ON THE INTERNET
icon.
- A sign-up window will appear. Click on the INSTALL button.
- Select the icon to go into Microsoft Internet Explorer and
click on the OK button.
- Double click on the AUFAIT connection icon.
- Enter your Username (must be in lower case) and your password
(exactly as you have given it to us).
- Now click on the CONNECT button. If you can not login, then
read how to run the script program to create a login script for
your PC.
- You are now logged into Au Fait Communications.
- Configure your Mail Software.
- Click on the Mail Icon at the top of the screen. This will
drop down a menu.
- Enter your full name or a handle if you want to use one. If
used, this name will appear in all outgoing email. It is not
necessary to use a name or handle.
- Enter your email address' box as <login_name>@aufait.net.
Make sure that all the letters are in lower case.
- Use your login name as the PC name and click on the OK button.
- The POP3 Server is pop3.aufait.net.
- The SMTP Server is smtp.aufait.net.
- Password is the password you gave us to start the account.
(Be extremely careful when entering the password. The password
is case sensitive.)
- Click on the OK button.
- You are now ready to send and receive email.
